You walk into your grandparents house and all you see are the photos of the children and grandkids up and down the halls. Meanwhile, the only photo of them is from their wedding in 1972. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
It’s time that we change the narrative and focus. We want to remember and honor our elderly family members at every phase of their life. Some of them have never had a photoshoot and it’s time to change that.
Let us capture your elderly loved ones with their wrinkles, wisdom and all.
In American culture, we focus so much on youthfulness. For example, how many photos do you have of your children compared to those of your parents and grandparents? In other cultures, the patriarch and the matriarch are the most revered people in the family but in our culture they are often overlooked. You’ll hear, “Let’s do one more photo with grandma and grandpa in it.” In the family photo experience, they are the afterthought, never the star of the show.
Pat and Bruce are Amanda’s grandparents. They were the second couple to ever come over for a legacy shoot. We turned on some Elvis music to set the mood and of course, grandma started crying. They had never had a photoshoot done before so it took a minute to get loose. But once she did, she turned on the sass! They were twirling around and everything. Grandma kept telling Papaw to smile more and he would just sit there with his sly grin. We had a blast going through all the photos and they had a hard time picking out their favorites. Grandma has called me nearly every day since the shoot to ask about her pictures.
Charles and Bonnie have been married for over 47 years with a legacy that spans over 3 generations. They themselves had 8 kids who have gifted them 43 grandchildren, including a few great- grandchildren. They hadn’t had a photoshoot since the days of Olan Mills so it was time to let them cut loose in front of the cameras. Charles was grinning from ear to ear the whole time just looking at Bonnie. He’d get so caught up in the moment he’d forget we were snapping their pictures. At the end they brought out their wedding picture so you know we did a few shots to commemorate that special occasion. Of course that was one of their favorites.
